This post about combining furniture in a newlywed home is sponsored by Jonathan Louis. I received an ottoman to facilitate this review. All opinions and text are mine.
When Dan and I first got married in 2009, we had two apartments full of furniture to combine. My style was more ornate and his was more minimal (a nice way of saying bachelor/frat house). We each had items we wanted to keep, and honestly, I wasn’t too enthused about most of his bachelor stuff. However, marriage is a compromise, and we had to come up with a way to make both of us happy.
Compromising on newlywed furniture
What we decided to do was to each keep some of our favorite pieces and then purchase new furniture together. The tough part was finding new pieces that would go well with our old pieces. Plus, we wanted furniture that would last and wasn’t too expensive – you know how the newlywed budget goes. At the time, we didn’t really know where to go to buy furniture and just looked for ideas at our local furniture store that didn’t have many choices.
Recently, I was reminded of this time in our marriage. We brought home a new Jonathan Louis storage ottoman (shown above) for our family room, and I was struck by how stylish and functional it is. It also goes very well with our existing decor. I realized that since it has clean lines it can really go with many different decorating styles and fit in perfectly. We put it in our family room next to the bay window. Since it is on wheels, I move it to the side so I can look out the window while I do my crossword puzzles, or read a book. It is such a comfy place to hang out!
Combining your “stuff”
This is the type of furniture piece I would have loved to have when we first got married. Not only because of the way it blends with varying styles but also because it has so much storage room. When we combined households, we had so much “stuff” – things we thought we couldn’t part with but didn’t have room for in our house. Storage was key. Check out how much you can fit in this ottoman…
Dreams Happen. Make Room.
Jonathan Louis has been making furniture since 1985 and is a family-owned and operated business. Their slogan “Dreams Happen. Make Room.” is perfect for newlyweds. After the wedding (a dream come true), you need to make room for one another. Their furniture really helps you do just that. All of their furniture is customizable, on-trend, contemporary, stylish, affordable and built to last – all things a newlywed couple wants, right?
In addition to storage ottomans, they have beautiful sectionals, sofas, swivel chairs, armchairs, other accent chairs, storage benches, headboards and more. All of these items are customizable; you can browse hundreds of swatches online and even order swatches to help with inspiration and planning. This can help you find a fabric that works to combine your tastes. We had such a hard time deciding on a fabric but finally agreed on this fiesta dot mustard. It is fun and modern!
Jonathan Louis is available at retailers like Macy’s, Living Spaces, ZGallerie and other local furniture stores nationwide. Find a dealer near you and start creating your newlywed home!
