Have you waited until today to think of something for you and your sweetie to do to ring in the new year? No worries, let me share what my hubby and I are going to do so you can get some ideas! First of all, we plan to stay in for New Year’s Eve. If you have waited until now to make plans, you are probably going to have a date night in as well… most places are booked for dinner at this point.
Go over 2013 memories
Last year we jumped on the memory jar craze that swept through Pinterest. Not sure what I mean? Where have you been? Certainly not on Pinterest! Here are some of the pins you may have seen about a memory jar. Basically, throughout the year you write down good things that have happened in your lives. Memorable events, exciting trips, and even funny mishaps. Each memory has a date and a short description and is folded and put in the jar.
Over a leisurely dinner at home, we plan to take out our memory jar and read the individual papers to each other. We haven’t done this before, but I am sure it will be quite fun, and a great trip down memory lane. If you don’t have a memory jar from 2013, you could go through your calendars and reminisce, or each writes down things you remember from the year and share them over dinner.

Create a 2014 memory jar
Our memory jar for 2013 was just a plain old jar with random slips of paper in it. Not much planning went into the presentation. For 2014, we are going to make it a bit more fun. I have created printable slips to use for the written memories, and a label for the jar. I’m sharing it here so you can download, print and use on your new memory jar as well.
2014 memory jar materials needed:
- Printer
- Printer paper
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Ribbon
- Jar with lid (I used a jar with hinged lid
)
- Download the memory jar slips and jar label files
- Optional: sticker paper for the printer
Instructions:
- Print out multiple copies of the memory slips and cut along dotted lines. Leave a pile of these with a pen next to the jar.
- Print out the label for the jar and cut around the edges.
- Use a hole punch to put a hole in the top.
- Use ribbon to tie it around your jar (I used gift wrap ribbon, but you would use regular ribbon as well)
- Option: Instead of printing and attaching with ribbon, you could print it on sticker paper and attach the label to the side of the jar.

Start making new memories
Now comes the fun part; start making your new memories for the year! For our date night in, I went to Walmart and picked up this K-Y Yours+Mine special Date Night package shown above. We’ve been wanting to try this product since we first saw the advertisement! Who wouldn’t when they say it “provides an invigorating warming sensation for him. A thrilling tingling sensation for her. Put the two together for a totally new, unexpected experience. It’s more exciting. More satisfying. More everything.” Who doesn’t want more excitement, satisfaction and… everything?
Fun new memories with the K-Y Yours+Mine Date Night package
What is really cool about this package in particular is that it not only includes the K-Y Yours+Mine Couples Lubricants, but also has a code for 2 gourmet meals delivered right to your home from plated.com and a $5 Vudu movie credit. So, we can enjoy a candlelit dinner for two, and then watch a romantic movie on Vudu. Can you believe I’ve never seen “The Notebook” before? I think I will put that one on the list and see what he says. The dinner and movie should definitely put us in the mood to take advantage of the K-Y portion of the date night! Sounds like an awesome way to ring in the new year! Plus it will make a great first addition to our memory jar for 2014.
How are you and your sweetie celebrating New Year’s Eve this year? Will you have a memorable #KYdatenight in?
