On Everyday Ramblings of My Life, I was reading about how Tara (the writer of the blog) came upon the idea of a Christmas Jar when her neighbor received one before Christmas. I had never heard of a Christmas Jar before, and I found out that it is any jar in which you collect spare change. Then, before Christmas you anonymously give the jar to someone in need. Tara decided to create a jar and have her children participate in filling it.
The Christmas Jar
This is what their jar looked like once they completed it:
Written on the outside was “Make a Change – Change a Life – Change Yourself.” What a wonderful sentiment! It really captures the idea behind the jar and reminds them of its purpose daily.
Our Wish Box
My husband and I have been collecting spare change in a box. We call it our Wish Box. It is decorated with pictures of things that we want on the outside of the box and occasionally I add up the money to see how much we have collected. After reading about Tara’s Christmas Jar, I think I will talk to my husband about donating some or all of our “box money” around Christmas. There are so many people who could use the money, especially around the holidays.
Do you have a Christmas Jar?
