One thing I love about warmer weather is finally being able to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. Recently we started opening up our windows and I noticed something that I hate… gunk. You know what I mean: the built up dirt and dead bugs that accumulate in the window and sliding glass door tracks. Disgusting! With the gunk in mind and Fabuloso® multi-purpose cleaner in hand, I am adding this cleaning project to our list of things to do to ready our home for summer. With Fabuloso®, we will be able to do all of our cleaning projects and enjoy the lavender scent with the fresh summer breeze.
How to clean window tracks like a pro
No need to hire a professional cleaner, this cleaning job isn’t as tough as it looks. Here are the steps for cleaning your window or sliding glass door tracks.
Gather supplies
You will need the following cleaning tools to get started:
- An old toothbrush
- An old towel or paper towels
- A good multi-purpose cleaner like Fabuloso® (I found it in the all-purpose cleaners section at Walmart – see photo below. Look for their special display this week at the end of the aisle!)
- A vacuum cleaner with a thin cleaning attachment (Buy one like mine on Amazon or Walmart)
- A bucket or small container
- (optional) spray bottle
- (optional) cotton-swabs
Step 1: Vacuum
Vacuum up any loose dirt and bugs using the thin vacuum cleaner attachment. You may also use a hand-held vacuum.
Step 2: Loosen dirt
Use an old toothbrush to loosen more dirt. You can use cotton swabs to get in any places that the toothbrush won’t reach.
Step 3: Vacuum
Vacuum up dirt that was loosened by the toothbrush.
Step 4: Pour in Fabuloso®
Depending on how stuck on the remaining dirt seems to be, you can either pour a small amount of Fabuloso® straight out of the bottle or mix with some warm water first. I prefer to just pour it in the tracks, but you could also add it to a spray bottle and spray it in the tracks.
Step 5: Remove dirt
Use the toothbrush to remove remaining dirt.
Step 6: Rinse
Rinse away the dirt by pouring warm water over the tracks.
Step 7: Dry
Use an old towel or paper towels to dry the tracks and remove any gunk stragglers. You are done!
The whole cleaning process took me about 5 minutes. It took me longer to get out the supplies! My kitchen smells of lavender every time the breeze comes in the window. I think upstairs I will try the Limited Edition Spring Bloom scented Fabuloso®!
Are your window or sliding glass door tracks as dirty as mine? Have any cleaning tips to add?
