One easy way to make your gifts look more exciting is to add Christmas ornaments on them. What is great about this, is that you are giving two gifts in one! What is even better? You don’t have to limit yourself to using them only during the holidays. Especially if you can find a good assortment of ornaments.
Have you ever been to Big Lots before? I hadn’t until recently, and I didn’t realize what I was missing! I went there in search of some ornaments for my gifts this year and spent a couple of hours wandering around excited about everything I found. I left with a cart full of items for the holidays and beyond!
Big Lots: your one-stop holiday store
Holiday food and gifts at Big Lots
Big Lots has a regular food section, but at this time of year, they also have a holiday baking center chock full of all of the things you need to make your favorite holiday foods. This includes an assortment of gingerbread house kits and your favorite food gift items like cookies and candy.
Something that really surprised me was that Big Lots had so many gift items. Not only did they have a toy section full of this season’s hot items, they also had plenty of gifts for teens, adults and pets.
I purchased a hot sauce gift box for my husband, a Fun Dip Fun Book for my niece and Frozen slippers for her as well. They are both going to love these items!
Holiday decorations at Big Lots
Every holiday decoration I could think of was at Big Lots! You could get your Christmas tree and decorate it, your lit up outdoor items (including blow up ones), and all sorts of indoor decorations.
I was really happy with the assortment of ornaments at Big Lots. They had some really great sets and a variety of themes. Styles and assortment vary by store. I got a lot of great ones to add on my gifts this year. I’ll show you how easy it is to make a gift look great with Christmas ornaments!
Making a gift look great with ornaments
Supplies needed:
- Gift items
- Plain gift wrap or craft paper
- Ribbon
- Ornaments
- Piece of white cardstock paper
- Tape
- Scissors
For this tutorial, I used the hot sauce gift box and Fun Dip Fun Box I bought at Big Lots, plus another item I already had for my sister.
Step 1: Wrap the gifts with plain wrapping paper. I used a tan and a red craft paper for mine.
Step 2: Add ribbon to the gift. The ones I used are from Big Lots.
Tip: vary the types of ribbon and placement if you are going to be giving the gifts to people on the same day. That way each person feels special.
Step 3: Add an ornament to the gift. The ones I used are from Big Lots.
The two on the left were added by taking the ornament loop and wrapping it around the ribbon on the gift. Then I taped the loop to the back of the ornament to hold it in place.
The one on the right was added by taking the ribbon string and weaving it through the holes in the butterfly to keep it in place. Can you see how the one on the right could be used for any present during the year? Even though it is an ornament, it doesn’t scream “Christmas”, right?
Now, they look great as-is, but I wanted to add some cute gift tags that I created.
Step 4: Use the form below to download the gift tags and then print them out.
Step 5: Cut around gift tags and punch a hole in the top.
Step 6: Add a piece of string to gift tag.
Step 7: Add gift tags to the gifts.
Don’t they look great? Just some simple ribbon and ornaments from Big Lots and free printable gift tags!

I never thought of using ornaments as part of the gift wrap before. It’s really nice and it makes the gift look extra special! I love the idea, thanks!

We usually just put wrapping paper and a sticker tag on our gifts. No bows, ro ribbon… so boring. I really think these do look special!
