When you think of romantic cities in Europe, you probably think of places such as Paris, Vienna or Venice. However, there are romantic things to do in just about every city in Europe!
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know that Dan and I recently took a month-long trip to Germany. Yes, a month! It was an amazing trip and we really enjoyed traveling around the country and sharing our experiences with you on Instagram. One of the most pleasant surprises about Germany was how many romantic places there were to visit, dine in, or tour. Berlin, Germany’s capital, was no exception. Here are some of the romantic date ideas we discovered while visiting Berlin.
Berlin date ideas for romantics
Take a stroll on the Landwehr Canal
This Landwehr Canal in Berlin is a beautiful place to visit. No matter where you start and stop your walk, you are going to see some gorgeous sites. If you have an afternoon available, you could walk the full length of the canal; it is about 6.6 miles. Not up for walking? You can also experience the canal via the water by taking a boat tour. We were visiting in the fall, and as you can see in the photo above, the trees were just beginning to change colors. It was breathtaking.
Dine above the city
What could be more romantic than a view of the city at night? A rotating view of the city at night! Sphere restaurant sits 207m above the city in the Berlin TV Tower. Depending on the time of day, you can get a 360° view while eating in 30 to 60 minutes. Make sure to make reservations in advance; the window seats fill up quickly.
You can also ascend the tower without visiting the restaurant. The observation deck is open to the public as well as the Panorama Bar. Just like the restaurant, make sure to book tickets well in advance or you may have a long wait. When Dan and I were there, we waited in the line only to find out that the next available time was in 4 hours. We had other plans, so we weren’t able to go up. Needless to say, we were pretty bummed!
Dance the night away
Located on the bank of the river Spree, the Strandbar Mitte is a fun beach bar complete with palm trees, beach chairs, and relaxed atmosphere! If visiting during the day, get a cool drink, grab some chairs and enjoy the view of Museum Island and its amazing architecture. Watch the sunset, and then dance under the twinkling lights. There is always a dance party going on including Salsa, Tango, and Chacha!
Visit the beer garden in the Tiergarten
The Tiergarten is one of Berlin’s largest city parks and is located by the Berlin Zoo. Nestled in the heart of the park is Café am Neuen See which features a beer garden right beside a lake. Dan and I enjoyed the people watching, good food and, of course, beer! The cafe has an easygoing atmosphere that invites you to take your time and relax while you eat. You can amp up the romance by renting a rowboat and taking it out for a spin on the lake.
Surround yourself with feathered friends
Head southwest of Berlin to an island in the Havel River named Pfaueninsel or Peacock Island. You need to take a ferry to this nature reserve island where no cars, pets or smoking are allowed. The park-like setting features a castle, meadows perfect for a picnic, and peacocks that freely roam around the island. Spend an afternoon enjoying the sites as you wander.
