We all know we should work out but we don’t always do it. A lot of us find an amazing exercise plan, go full-force for a week or two then give up.
Why do we give up? Is it because we are lazy?
Personally, I don’t think it is because we are lazy. I believe it comes down to lack of motivation. We are all very busy people! We blog, some work out of the home, we run the kids to and from practice and we have an entire household to manage! That is a lot of stuff on our plate, finding the time and motivation to work out isn’t always the easiest task.
5 Ways to Stay Motivated When Exercising
Set a Goal
Setting a goal can really help keep you on track! The key here is not setting too large of a goal at once. If you want to lose twenty pounds that might sound like a lot during week 1. Instead of setting large goals, set small goals that are easier to achieve. Start off with a goal of 5 pounds or maybe a goal of exercising for 15 minutes a day.
Smaller goals are easier to reach and will keep you motivated for a longer period of time.
Have a Schedule
Trying to fit exercising into a hectic life can feel almost impossible. Instead of working out whenever you have free time, set a routine. Get in the habit of working out at the same time every single day. Your body will get used to this and crave this time. Once you get used to working out on a schedule it will become second nature.
Change it Up
Try new workout routines from time to time. Doing the same thing day after day gets boring, so create some variety. One easy way to do this is to implement a circuit into your exercise regiment. Maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday you do cardio and then Tuesday and Thursday do some weight training. Get creative with this! You want exercise to be fun, not a chore.
Finding a support group can be an awesome source of motivation! See if your spouse wants to be your workout buddy or maybe find a buddy at the gym. No matter who you team up with make sure you are both dedicated to supporting and motivating each other.
Determine an End Goal
Think about the end goal! That end goal might be to lose weight, look great in a bikini or just to live a healthier lifestyle. No matter what your goal is keep that in mind! Persistence will pay off!
