When you think about sharing some quality time with your love, images of picnics and walks on the beach often flood your mind and bring a smile to your face. Then you walk out your front door and the cold reality we call winter slaps you in the face. Here are 10 winter date ideas to enjoy when the cold temperatures and snow drifts get you down.
10 fun winter date ideas
Museums
Remember class field trips as a kid to see dinosaur bones? That may have been a little boring, but there are lots of different kinds of museums and many other things to see. Try a rock and roll museum, an art museum, or even a wax museum for something different. Planetariums are also lots of fun and can be very romantic date night destinations.
Go to a bar
There are lots of things you can do at a bar besides drink. You can watch a comedy show, see some local bands play, and watch sports on big screen TVs. It’s also a great way to make friends as a couple or get together with old friends you haven’t seen in a while.
Go to a concert
Concerts have it all – sounds, sights, and even shopping! You can enjoy the music and some great people watching together.
Dinner out
Winter is a great time to try out new restaurants in your area. If you’ve never tried Thai food, what are you waiting for? It might just be your new favorite.
Take in a movie
Sometimes the oldest ideas are some of the best ones. A movie is fun, relaxing, and fairly inexpensive. If you and your spouse don’t like the same type of movies you can always compromise. Chick flick this week, action movie the next.
Ice Skating
Can’t skate? So what. That’s half the fun. You and your sweetie can hold hands and help each other out! Ice skating is also great winter exercise.
Skiing/Snowboarding/Snow Tubing
Break out your hat and gloves and tackle the snow. Skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing are exciting and fun. Bonus: Ski lodges make great romantic getaways. Roaring fire, hot chocolate, maybe a hot tub? You might want to make this date an overnight one!
Sports events
Even if you don’t like sports, you may love going to sports events. It’s an entirely different thing when it’s live – the atmosphere and energy of the fans are intoxicating and a lot of fun. Give it a shot. You may find that you’re a big fan of hockey or football and didn’t even know it.
Parties
What are your friends doing? Engagement parties, birthday parties, and other celebrations are a great way to break the winter boredom.
Stay home
Sometimes, it’s just too cold or snowy to go anywhere, and some of the best dates are the ones where you have a quiet and romantic dinner and movie at home like the “date night in” my hubby and I enjoyed on New Year’s Eve!
Try to enjoy winter dates. Just like summer, there are things you can do that you can’t once the weather changes. The important thing is that you spend time with your special someone.
