Date ideas in Seattle
Ride the wheel
Take a ride on Seattle’s Great Wheel, a 175 feet tall Ferris wheel with 41 white gondolas that each seat eight adults. Want a truly unique Ferris wheel experience? Take a double date and sit in the Cabin #42, the VIP cabin where you’ll sit in leather bucket seats, check out the view through a glass bottom floor, and enjoy a stereo system. This cabin seats four adults. Gaze at the LED light shows on the wheel while you wait to take your own soaring flight on this special date night! Document your date with a souvenir picture, available for purchase after your ride. The typical ride is about 10-20 minutes, depending on how busy the season is. All rides are three revolutions of the Ferris wheel. This special date night will make you feel like a kid again!
Chew your favorite piece of gum and stick it to the Gum Wall at Pikes Place Market. It may sound a little, well, gross for a date night, but this magnificent artistic display is nothing short of unique. Although the original gum is no longer on the wall (it was scrubbed clean in 2015), visitors have added new layers of chewed up flavor to make the wall whole again. It’s more than just individual plastered pieces of ABC (already been chewed) gum. In fact, you might see a mosaic of an American flag or other creative artistry within the wall’s canvas. The colorful wall makes a noteworthy backdrop for a photo of you and your significant other. This is one original date idea to chew on!
Dinner and a view
SkyCity Restaurant at the Space Needle provides a panoramic view of Seattle from 500 feet. From the observation deck, you’ll see glorious views of downtown Seattle. While you’re there, dine on delicious local delights from renowned chef Jeff Maxfield. Try the three-course menu starting with an appetizer like wild greens, followed by an entrée like tenderloin of beef brochette with roasted fingerling potatoes and a chanterelle mushroom fondue. Wrap up your meal with a dessert such as vanilla bean crème brûlée topped with berries. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list with some local flare. Try the l’ecole no. 41 Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley. Make a reservation, but don’t worry about wearing black tie. Casual and formal wear are welcome.
Kiss near a romantic waterfall
The 22-foot waterfall in Waterfall Garden Park is home to the first United Parcel Service (UPS) headquarters. The gorgeous manmade waterfall in Pioneer Square is a picturesque photo spot and an iconic piece of Seattle history. (UPS headquarters was built there in 1907.) Pack a lunch and eat at the tables in the park while you relax in this romantic spot that Seattle natives and visitors alike call a “hidden gem in the city”. You’ll also find historical art to view in Pioneer Square, including a Tlingit totem pole with the bust of Chief Seattle.
Rent a boat from the South Lake Union Livery and set sail on a private cruise with you and your sweetie. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind the company, go on a Sunday public sail where volunteer skippers take out a variety of boats from schooners to yachts and let everyone aboard. Generally, public rides are about 45 minutes to an hour long. Sign-ups start in person on Sundays at 10 a.m. Getting there early gives you a better chance at getting a slot. Although it depends on the boats and skipper availability, usually 200 passengers will take public rides each Sunday.
