When getting married, everyone knows they are going to share things with their spouse. Money, space, the remote… all common things you prepare to share. However, when I got married, there were some things I didn’t realize I’d be sharing with my husband and this made for some very interesting situations!
Sharing in the bathroom
I knew that if we only had one bathroom, it would be a very cozy situation. Sharing a bathroom can be difficult as I’m sure you have noticed. However, I didn’t know that I had to keep an eye on my stuff! My husband has “borrowed” my razor, my moisturizer, my shampoo, my tweezers, and even my deodorant!
I started to catch on when I ran out of shampoo but still had 3/4 of a bottle of conditioner left. I confronted him and he said he liked the way it smelled better than his own shampoo. He then sheepishly told me about all of my things he had been using.
Sharing in the kitchen
Living together, we obviously share food, and that is to be expected…to an extent. When we go out to eat or order food in, we each order our own meal. I like to order with not only dinner in mind, but with the idea that there will be leftovers for lunch the next day as well. Let me tell you now, invest in a good marker and put it near the fridge. If I don’t write “do not eat” on my leftovers, they will be gone by the time I go to eat them the next day!
Snacks are another thing he likes to “borrow”. I am fine with sharing my snacks…when I know about it. We have a grocery list on the refrigerator. We both write things we need on the list and I do the grocery shopping. Sometimes I go to eat a snack I bought for myself and find that most (if not all) of it is gone. The biggest snacks missing? Chocolate and dairy. Chocolate chips don’t stand a chance in our house. I’ve gone to make chocolate chip cookies to find the bag half empty! And yogurt? I have to hide the flavors I want in the back so that I am more likely to get one.
When you combine chocolate and dairy in one snack, it has a very short lifespan in our kitchen! The latest one he has been “borrowing” is my Skinny Cow Chocolatey Dipped Ice Cream Sandwiches. They come in 3 flavors: Vanilla Bean Dream, Ultimate Chocolate, and Creamy Caramel. All 3 have creamy ice cream between chocolate wafers and are then dipped in thick, velvety, chocolatey coating. You can see why these wouldn’t last long in our freezer, right? You definitely need to try these! Find a store near you that carries them, and make sure to buy enough for your spouse too. Or this may happen to you too…
Top indulgences men “borrow” from women
It seems that I am not alone. Skinny Cow conducted a study to find out what things men like to “borrow” from women. Here is what they found:
Dealing with sharing
So how have we dealt with this borrowing? In some cases, like the razor and tweezers, I talked to him about what he liked about them and then bought him his own. For snacks? I just buy double (or sometimes triple) so we have enough for the both of us to enjoy! Leftovers (and chocolate chips)? I have my trusty marker and sticky notes handy to write “do not eat”!
