In-law holiday memories
This month, I asked the anonyMRS about the craziest holiday memory of their in-laws. Kick back and read some of their answers.
This anonyMRS has in-laws that just couldn’t wait for presents…
When we were newly married and our son was little we had gone to our in-laws for Christmas day. As we were unloading the car my father-in-law had my son in the house and had given him his gift before my husband and I had even taken our coats off – we didn’t even get to see him unwrap his gift!!!
Even though she isn’t married yet, this anonyMRS already has an interesting story! Find out how she ended up eating salad and beer for Christmas dinner…
My soon to be mother-in-law invited us over for Christmas last year. She told everyone to write down what they liked and to include any allergies, etc. I am a vegetarian and she has KNOWN this for the past 4 years. She called me the week of the holiday and specifically stated, “I will look up some vegetarian dishes so that you will have something to eat.” I thought, “Great, I don’t have to bring my own food (which I normally do).”
Why did I listen to her? We arrived at her house with gifts in tow and everything was going GREAT. When dinner time came, I went in the kitchen and low and behold – everything included meat. I wanted to cry! I was starving and hadn’t eaten all day. I pulled my fiance to the side and told him how I felt and he approached his mother about it. She came up to me and said, “I made GREEN BEANS, you can eat those.” I was so hurt I burst into tears. I ended up leaving and going to the CVS (the only place open); I grabbed a small bag of salad, ranch dressing and a 12 pack of beer. Every holiday since then, I have made my own food and taken it with me to her house.
Check out this anonyMRS birthday story…
One year, on my birthday, I went to my mother-in-law’s house for a “surprise” birthday party. (Surprise is an understatement) On our way there, my mother-in-law got mad about something she thought I had said in the background on the phone on the way to her house. When we got there, she threatened to pull me out of the car and beat me senseless! After I refused to fight her, she went inside and got my birthday cake and threw it at me. It missed, but I still got the point. Honestly, I was more mad that I didn’t get to try the cake, it looked amazing, even splattered all over the ground. Happy Birthday to me!
And, here is one anonyMRS who is a mother-in-law telling on herself…
I am the mother-in-law to 3 wonderful daughter-in-laws. My eldest son, wife and 3 year old were planning to sleep over for the holidays at my home. My 3 year old grandson was going to sleep in his 25 year old uncle’s childhood bed. I decided to put his father’s “snuggle bear” and his Uncle Sam’s “snuggle bear” (that I had of coursed saved) in the bed to wait for his arrival. When he arrived, I told my grandson that he had a surprise waiting for him in his bed. He threw back the covers and screamed. There was a 34 and 25 year old bear without eyes and noses looking like a horror movie in his bed. Needless to say, I removed those treasured bears quickly and he didn’t sleep well! And can you believe I teach Grand-parenting classes?
