It is funny how food can bring back memories. When I think about summers growing up, I remember ice pops that turned my mouth strange colors and nibbling on those little candy dots attached to a paper strip. You know the ones I’m talking about? You’d bite them off and end up swallowing scraps of paper in the process. But most of all, I think of s’mores. The taste of chocolate and marshmallow always reminds me of summers at my grandparents’ cabin in the Poconos.
The hot July weather is ramping up! I love the summer and really enjoy the warm weather. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I don’t look for ways to cool off. We love going to the pool and our air conditioning is pumping the cool breeze indoors. When we’re outdoors during the day, I like […]
These no bake fudgy black bean brownies are unbelievable! Easy to make and they actually taste really good. Trust me, you want to make these brownies. When I first heard of black bean brownies, I thought “I am never going to try them!” I couldn’t imagine that you could use black beans in a sweet […]
As I have (repeatedly) mentioned, I come from a long line of dessert eaters, and when I look at a menu I usually look at the dessert section first so that I can plan my meal accordingly. The first time I saw a mini dessert on a restaurant menu, I remember thinking, “Are you kidding? I could eat 20 of those!” Then someone pointed out how you could order a few different ones and enjoy multiple desserts. I was hooked!
The holidays mean time spent with family and friends. This also means time spent eating! At least, it does in our family. Holidays have always been filled with delicious meals with tons of desserts—we love our pies.
Ask anyone in my family what cookie they have to have during the holidays, and every one of them will answer peanut butter kiss cookies. Some of you may know them as peanut blossoms, but we’ve always called them peanut butter kiss cookies in our family. Forget the sugar cookies and gingerbread, we want some peanut butter and chocolate at our holiday parties! Okay, to be honest, I want peanut butter and chocolate year-round.
November is just the beginning of a holiday season full of good food and yummy treats! For me (and I’m sure many of you), this is the hardest time of year to keep a healthy lifestyle. It gets dark earlier and is colder so I don’t want to go outside for walks. Plus, the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are full of delicious treats that I can’t seem to resist. What is a girl (who is still eating Halloween candy) supposed to do?
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is difficult in a world where it is easy to eat fast food, guzzle sodas and veg out in front of the TV with peanut butter cups. At least I know it is for me, that is why I have been sharing ideas for getting in shape with your spouse and cleaning up your diet.
It has been above 90 degrees all week and doesn’t look like it will cool down any time soon. We are fortunate enough to have air conditioning in our home, so we are pretty comfortable indoors. However, we can’t stay inside all day. Our beagle, Honey, won’t allow that! She loves to be outdoors and is up for a walk anytime we are willing to take her. It is one of her favorite things to do (right after eating and sleeping). With all of this heat, she starts panting in no time at all. When we come home from our walks, she guzzles down water and then sprawls belly-down on the wood floor near an air conditioning vent.
My husband and I love to play games. Not surprisingly, one of our favorite date night ideas is to have a game night in. We will invite another couple over and either play a game as couple vs. couple or as an individual competition. It is a great way to socialize and enjoy company.
