Is shoe addiction real? I know a person that has so many pairs of shoes that they have their own room in her house. Maybe you’re not that excessive, but shoe storage is an issue for many people, whether you have an entire room full or only a few pairs. No one wants to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and trip on a pair of heels. Here are the various ways you can organize your shoes.
The most basic shoe storage solution is a shoe rack*. You can get them with a number of tiers and in a good amount of widths. These are especially helpful if you have an entryway that everyone leaves their shoes in before coming into the house, or if you tend to have muddy shoes that you don’t want to bring through the living room.
A shoe cubby is also a great addition to your home, and takes up minimal space. It’s open for easy access, comes in different widths and sizes, and different variations are made of wood, plastic, and fabric.
A step up from the shoe cubby is the shoe cabinet. Shoe cabinets are more attractive, and can be used in any room. If you have a little apartment, you can even use the shoe cabinet as a night table or TV stand. They also come in different heights and widths. Because they’re closed, though, you really don’t want to put your muddy soccer cleats in there.
Over the door shoe organizer
An over the door shoe organizer is a great space saver, but isn’t very practical for things like boots and bigger shoes, which may not fit on it depending on the design. It is, however, great for flip flops, sandals, and slippers. You can get the type with the hooks, the type with the bars, or the pocket style.
Shoe storage bag
A shoe storage bag is good for those pairs of shoes that you don’t wear often, or for storing sandals in the winter and boots in the summer. Many of these are designed to fit right under your bed or dressing table to save space, and they have a zipper so that the shoes stay protected from dust.
If you’ve got a lot of storage room in your house, you might want to opt for shoe boxes. While you can certainly leave the shoes in the individual boxes, they are safer and better protected in a plastic shoe bin. Clear ones are the best because you can see what’s inside with a quick glance. These are usually stack-able and fit well on the top shelf of a closet.
Depending on your situation, you may need one or all of the shoe storage products above, but one thing is certain – there is no better way to take care of your shoes than to store them properly.
