“Griffin Sharpe noticed everything. When people spoke, he noticed the color of their teeth He counted the number of frayed threads on men’s shirts or the number of feathers on a lady’s hat….”
This is a fiction book that tells the story of Griffin Sharpe, a 13 year old boy who notices everything. He is sent to London to live with his eccentric uncle for the summer. While traveling to London, Griffin hears stories about the famous Sherlock Holmes and begins to hope that maybe his uncle is the Private Investigator. What he finds instead is an uncle who tries to be a detective but has people issues and can never quite compare to the great Sherlock Holmes.
During the first few days of his visit, Griffin stumbles on to a mystery that takes both his detailed observation skills and his uncle’s experience and inventions. What was the “Loch Ness Monster”- like contraption that kidnapped a skilled clockmaker? Is there a connection between the stolen fireworks and a plot to kill the queen and Sherlock Holmes? Can Griffin and his uncle solve the mystery before the whole town of London is engulfed in a huge explosion?
The book is well written and easy to follow. would recommend this as a great read for a Middle School student.
