Don’t spend Money “by accident”

This is the time of year for family, friends and…. spending money.  There are sales ads everywhere telling you that now is a good time to buy a product because it’s 60% off and you get a coupon for $10 off if you spend $50.  Many of  the money saving blogs are full of posts advertising deals that would cost me extra money that I don’t plan to spend.

That makes no sense to me!

If you plan to buy a product then definitely try to get a percentage off and use those money off coupons.  But if you don’t have the money or don’t plan to buy the product, don’t get suckered by the ads.

Last week I talked to a 4 year old named Peter who reminded me that commercials are just trying to trick you into spending money on things you don’t need.  So let’s all take Peter’s advice and spend our money ‘on purpose’ because we are planning to do so.

When you walk into a store or shop online, be prepared with your list and don’t ‘accidently’ spend more than you planned.

I totally agree. Spending money that you otherwise would not spend doesn’t make sense. I do use coupons, but only on items that I needed to buy anyway. Sometimes I do get tempted to buy something just because I have a coupon for it, but the temptation usually goes away once I’m at the store (thank goodness).
