We were provided a complimentary couples massage from The Rittenhouse Spa & Club. All opinions are 100% our own.
You don’t need to go on an expensive week-long vacation to enjoy a vacation experience. There are so many things you can do right where you live. Try thinking like a tourist and see what you might want to visit or do in your neighborhood; become a backyard tourist!
The Rittenhouse Spa & Club
When we were on our honeymoon in Maui, my husband and I enjoyed a couples massage at the spa in our hotel. It was such a great experience. As a backyard tourist, I have been looking for a great place where we could get a massage together and feel like we are back on our honeymoon. I have found it! The Rittenhouse Spa & Club – Hair by Paul Labrecque is a relatively new spa that opened in The Rittenhouse, Philadelphia’s iconic luxury hotel. It is located on the third floor of the hotel, overlooking scenic Rittenhouse Square.
Relaxing at the spa
Recently, we scheduled a 1 hour massage at The Rittenhouse Spa & Club. We ended up making a day of it with all that they have to offer! First we got changed into comfy robes in the locker rooms and then we met in the Relaxation Lounge:
We enjoyed some water with lemon and then met with the two women who would be giving us our massages. We were taken to the “Love” room and spent an hour letting them turn us into jelly with the aromatherapy oils and relaxing massage techniques. I loved the music that was playing in the background. Everything was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep at one point. Afterwords, we headed back to the Relaxation Lounge and hydrated while we ate some snacks. At this point, we thought that we may be finished for the day. I had checked out their website, and knew that they had a pool and fitness room but wasn’t sure if we could use them. I checked at the desk and they gave us a tour of the rest of the facilities. They have a fitness room, sauna, steam rooms, and an indoor swimming pool that leads to an expansive outdoor deck and lounge (shown below). We got changed into our bathing suits and headed out to the sundeck to warm-up in the sun. Then we decided to take a swim in the indoor heated pool. I was so happy when I realized that it wasn’t a chlorine pool. I hate getting chlorine in my hair, so I don’t always swim underwater. I had no problems with that here and swam multiple laps. I really enjoyed floating on my back and looking up at the ceiling of windows out to the many floors of The Rittenhouse.
After our swim, we checked out the spa cuisine options on the Wellness Menu. The menu features drinks, salads and dishes made in the award-winning kitchen of Lacroix, The Rittenhouse’s Four Diamond restaurant. You won’t find these items on the regular restaurant menu; they are only served in The Rittenhouse Spa & Club. I enjoyed a grilled caesar salad with shrimp and Dan got a lobster roll. They brought our food right up to the pool and we ate poolside. You can also eat out on the sundeck if like.
The Rittenhouse Spa & Club Hair by Paul Labrecque
One thing we didn’t get to do on this visit was enjoy the salon treatments with Hair by Paul Labrecque. Renowned Manhattan-based stylist and salon owner Paul Labrecque has been recognized by Vanity Fair as one of the “Top 3 Stylists” in the country and is a regular stylist at shows for New York Fashion Week. The salon spans more than 3,000 square feet and features the following services:
- blow outs
- hair color
- scalp therapy
- world-renowned Kevyn Aucoin makeup application
All of these services are expertly executed by a talented team of fully-licensed professionals trained exclusively by Paul Labrecque. I’d love to go back and have them do a makeup application and updo for a date night out in Philly.
Do you live near Philadelphia, or are you planning a trip? I highly recommend The Rittenhouse Spa & Club – Hair by Paul Labrecque as a great place to enjoy a relaxing day being pampered. This was definitely a great backyard tourist experience for us!
