Rooftop Gardening

When my husband and I lived in an apartment building, our neighbors had a beautiful rooftop garden that they tended to nearly year-round. We never got around to doing it when we lived there, but I have always wanted to learn more about rooftop gardens and how to go about starting one. You see them on home and garden shows on TV and they are usually on condo or apartment buildings. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t have one on your house rooftop, or on a balcony/upper deck if you don’t have a yard, or don’t have room for a garden in your yard.

The Northeast Gardeniere

I found the following video on the Gardenieres website that explains more about rooftop gardens. In the video, Pamela Reed, the Northeast Gardeniere, gives a lot of tips including how to deal with wind gusts and water evaporating due to heat. Check it out:

A product I would definitely use in a rooftop garden is Miracle-Gro® Potting Mix. It is ideal for all kinds of container or potted plants so it is perfect for rooftop gardens. It feeds plants for up to 6 months so it should have no problem helping your garden produce throughout the fall.

Do you have a rooftop garden, or do you want to start one? Definitely check out the Gardenieres website. If you want to get more information or share stories with other gardeners, like the Miracle-Gro Facebook page to keep up-to-date!

I never considered rooftop gardening. Then again, I’m afraid of heights! LOL

I hope to move into my own town home someday. I think it’d be awesome to have a rooftop garden there!

Thanks for sharing my garden video! I hope everyone who commented on this post starts their own rooftop garden. About the heights, I’m scared too, I just don’t look over the edge! :)
