The “Man Cave” is a place for men to get away from their usual household duties and get back in touch with their bachelor pad style. Regardless of whether you are a newlywed and your spouse wants you to get rid of some of your prized possessions and decorations, or if you have been married for a long time and need a space to call your own, the “man cave” is one idea that has been taking the country by storm. Of course it’s not literally a cave. A basement, study, spare bedroom, or nearly any area will do. Also, while about comfort, the man cave does not have to be steeped in luxury to earn its title—let’s take a look at some ideas that can help you start creating your man cave today.
- Amenities. Consider what you want the primary purpose of your man cave to be. Is it a place where you and the guys can watch the game without being bothered? Try setting up a bar and a mini fridge to hold beer, booze, and game-day snacks. Hunt down some comfy recliners and set up a big TV to watch in style, and a pool table for non-game day gatherings. Is your man cave a place where you can focus on your own personal hobbies without being disturbed by anyone? Set up whatever supplies you need. Remember, it’s your space.
- Decorations. Does your wife hate your music posters? Does she think your taxidermy animals are creepy? In the man cave, it doesn’t matter! Adorn the walls however you see fit. Lower the lighting. Create beer can pyramids (or put the empties in the recycling–whatever you want).
- Stock up. The contents of your refrigerator are up to your imagination as well. No one is going to tell you to eat your fruits and veggies, so go all out. If you’re creating a sports haven, stock up on wings, beer, chips, dip, or whatever you want.
Remember, your man cave doesn’t have to create a huge hole in your wallet or checkbook. If you want to (and can) spend a large amount of money, go for it, but it’s not necessary. If you want to save money, try to furnish the room with items you already have as much as possible–chairs, coffee tables, vintage pieces, etc. Save your funds for the big ticket items like a new flat screen TV or mini bar and refrigerator. Whatever you decide to do, at the end of your project, your man cave should feel like home; your own personal safe haven within your house.

Thanks for the great tips on how to start setting up a “Man Cave” for my hunny! I will definitely take this tips into consideration. I am doing it as a surprise since he definitely deserves it! Thanks again!
The most important aspect of my hubby’s “man cave” is the recliner! He picked out a big, comfortable recliner where he can take a nap, relax with a cat in his lap (or nap with a relaxed cat!), read the paper, read a book, surf the web, etc., etc., etc. Although the room isn’t exactly “decorated” in the formal sense, he does display things that mean something to him. And I’m happy to say that one of those is a nice picture of the two of us.
