Redesigning your home and giving it a fresh look is often a necessity. No one really likes to have the same monotonous look for their home all 365 days of the year. Here is how you can renovate your home by using affordable home décor accessories or collectibles.
You can decorate your home…
1. With prized possessions
A great way to decorate your home is by making use of prized possessions. Many people have the habit of collecting shells, coins and stamps. You can display these collectibles in your living room by placing them in an organized manner in the bookshelves or in a shadow box.
If you have won any medals or trophies, they are also ideal to decorate your living room. You can actually arrange these medals and trophies in a sequence so that it reflects the various achievements of your life. It will also remind you of your achievements and add a sense of pride in you.
2. With photos
We capture the most memorable moments of our lives in photos. Photos are a very effective way to decorate your home. You can have single photos in large photo frames or many small photos which reflect many beautiful moments of your life.
Make sure to have a plain background as this further intensifies the impact of the photos. Calendars with photos add charm to a kitchen wall. Photos offer color, variety and uniqueness to your home.
3. With plants
You can give your home a natural touch by potting plants. You must select plants for the home interiors wisely. You can opt for flowering plants as these can make a cheerful and happy environment in your home. You can even go for the Holy Basil which is known to create a positive aura in the home.
Plants usually help to add life to your rooms. They can even help to eliminate the indoor odors.
4. With home-made crafts
Very often people neglect the possibility of decorating their homes with crafts made by hand. We can make many simple crafts using paper or laces. You can make these artifacts sitting at home. You can either hang it as a wall hanging or place it on the shelf as a showpiece.
Make sure these go well with the remaining interiors. Such homemade crafts are ideal for the kid’s bedrooms. You can decorate their walls using paintings made by kids. They will have a sense of achievement too.
5. By reusing old or unused items
Wisely recycling items can add to your home décor. You can reuse the old radiator cover to make a stylish and trendy flower vase. You can make a bathmat by merging together old wine corks. You can make cushion covers by merging together old t-shirts. You can even make cool crafts by using old magazines.
Reusing old stuff to decorate your home not only gives your home a new look, it also helps you eliminate a lot of clutter in the home.
6. With old bottles
Glass bottles come in several different colors and shapes. You can effectively use these as showpieces. You can group like colors together on a shelf or even use them as stylish flower vases. Glass is always an attraction in any part of your home. Perfume bottles would look great on your bedroom vanity table and colored glass would catch and reflect the light on a kitchen windowsill.
7. With fruit
This is another way to add a natural touch to your living room or dining room. You can place a few green apples or pears in a wooden basket on the tea-table or a glass bowl of lemons or limes on the dining table.
8. By selecting proper lighting
Lighting has a great effect on your home interiors. If you select the right kind of lighting, it can make your home look spacious and cozy. There are several varieties of lighting options available. You can opt for ornate chandeliers which hang from the high ceilings and brighten up the entire room. You may even use candles to provide lighting. There are many stylish and affordable candles available.
9. With fresh colors
You can change the entire mood of the room by using a new shade of paint for the room. Everyone gets irked by consistently watching the same color or shade. You can repaint your walls and give it a novel look. Select shades which make your home look bright. Steer away from shades that can make you sulky.
These are just a few affordable ways in which you can revitalize your home. Home decorating is a skill and you will be able to decorate your home properly if you envision what you want your home to look like.
One thing you should never compromise on when you decorate your home is your personal comfort. Adding your own personal touches will allow you to feel comfortable and cozy in your house and therefore make it a home.

9 Affordable and Trendy Home Décor Ideas http://t.co/3cJOmiex via @newlywedsurvive
Great ideas, many of which I can use. Thanks very much!!! I particularly like #8.
I used to have a small collection of cool looking bottles but they all had to make their way to the trash, I hate moving!! Love your ideas!
I like the old bottles idea. I know I saw a lot of those in my grandmothers garage, and now I can put them to use!
Love all these creative ideas! The best home decor is the kind you make your own – it’s personal and adds a touch of you to your environment. I have painted old mason jars as fun decor that is cheap. I also have a growing collection of Etsy Art; it’s a great way to get original artwork that is super affordable while also supporting independent artists. Stumbled the post!

I like your suggestion to place reminder of achievements. Do you prefer these in the home office or living room?

I think that tokens of your achievements can go anywhere, but personally, I prefer them in the office or bedroom. I think of them as being reminders for myself, but if you want to show them off, put them in a more high traffic area like the living room or kitchen.
I like to use old bottles to create really neat ideas for decorating my house! I take some clear old bottles and put colored rocks in them! I also take old bottles of different sizes and display them on a window sill!
Great ideas, Karen. Thank you for sharing them!
