Avacado salad - healthy snack

Healthy snacks don’t have to get boring. There are a number of ways to make snacks that are healthy and delicious. With all the recipes, products and your own creative abilities, you can make thousands of different snacks that will keep your taste buds happy. Here are a few tips to ensure that you always have healthy snacks that are an excitement for your mouth.

Where to Begin

The first step is to explore your grocery store. This doesn’t mean you should search for low-fat or low-calorie snacks. What it means is to look for ingredients that can be used to make healthy snacks. You might look at the different spices and seasoning mixes available, which can be used for everything from popcorn to snack mixes. You might also look for different fruits and vegetables that you haven’t tried before. Explore the entire store looking at the different meats, dairy, grains, etc so that you can get a better feel of what’s available. Remember that not all the foods will suit your taste buds, but there will be healthy ingredients you can’t wait to use again and again.

Reinventing Old Favorites

Another tip is to carefully study your favorite recipes. There are usually several ways you can make a recipe healthier. It may be using whole grain products in place of refined flours or white rice. You might also choose to use olive oil in place of butter. There are so many different substitutes you can make and many of them will not affect the flavor of the final dish. You might also want to think about your favorite store-bought products and restaurants foods. Making these foods at home is a great way to cut fat, calories and sodium.

Creating Something New

Now, it’s time to combine what you’ve learned. You know there are many products in the store that can be used to create healthy snacks and you know how to alter recipes to make them healthier. Now, why not take that knowledge and create your own recipes? Experimenting in the kitchen is a wonderful way to keep your snacks fresh and flavorful.

Healthy snacks do not have to be boring. There are so many healthy ingredients on the market and almost any recipe can be altered to make it healthier. Best of all, with a bit of creativity, you can create your own recipes that are low in fat and calories.

Great tips for healthy snacks. I was single and I have to agree it was easier to eat cereal or not so healthy items cause of the ease but when my boyfriend and I started to live together I had to change gears because I felt what I was eating just wasn’t enough for him. It’s a constant struggle but I stared buying at the local deli or butcher to stop buying packaged items.. cause frankly I have no clue what they did with it or how long they’ve been packaged. He helped me buy healthy foods like fish or chicken instead of red meat alll the time. Thanks for sharing

I’m inspired just from looking at the picture. Those avocados look delicious! Thanks for the reminders to be adventurous and explore areas outside your comfort zone. I think that’s often 3/4 of my battle right there…

I love the idea of reinventing old favorites. I also admit that I like the classic recipes as comfort food once in awhile

Yes, when I think “healthy” snack, I think boring carrots :) I do like the avocado example on this post, however. Thank you for the tips.

I love fruit and avocados are way at the top of my list of favorites.
I know our family gets into a food rut quite often. Thanks for the reminder to think outside the snack box.
